Team Member Spotlight: Insights from a CRA II

In this team member spotlight, explore how Bo found her passion for clinical research and how she has found fulfilling professional growth at PSI.

Describe your role at PSI and how you impact a clinical trial.

I work as a Clinical Research Associate II, acting as the intermediary between the participating hospital and the project team. Essentially, my role involves supporting the hospital in various capacities such as addressing protocol inquiries, reviewing data, and negotiating contracts. My responsibilities are quite diverse. Working closely with hospital staff puts me in an ideal position to resolve, discuss, or negotiate matters with them. This frequently leads to quicker and improved outcomes.

How did you become interested in clinical research, and how have you grown professionally at PSI?

As a graduate in biomedical science, my inherent passion for research was always present. However, what specifically drew me to clinical research? While pursuing my studies, I primarily focused on pre-clinical research, yet I found myself yearning to have a more direct impact on people’s lives. Upon discovering the breadth of opportunities within clinical research, including its various facets such as feasibility assessments, administrative tasks, regulatory affairs, and monitoring, I was easily enticed to pursue a career in this field.

I began my journey at PSI as a clinical trial administrator, I did not know much about the clinical trials industry. With time and the guidance of my colleagues, I immersed myself in the intricacies of clinical trials, discovering what aspects I enjoyed and those I did not. This experience allowed me to discern my professional aspirations. Two years ago, I transitioned to the role of Clinical Research Associate I, where I continue to learn every day. Working on diverse studies with different sponsors and colleagues has enriched my experience significantly. While I acknowledge that I still have much to learn, I am confident in my ability to continue growing within PSI and the field of clinical research.

What aspects of PSI’s culture do you appreciate the most?

I believe what distinguishes PSI is its personal and open approach. I feel comfortable sharing anything with my colleagues, and I’m able to be myself at all times. Our office in Belgium fosters a fantastic atmosphere, complemented by engaging activities such as the PSI bistro, quiz nights, and after-work drinks. Alongside the stimulating work I encounter in my studies, these additional activities and the open mindset within the company contribute significantly to my satisfaction working at PSI.
